“Mom must have already heard from my sisters why I came home early. But there really wasn’t any reason for me to stay there anymore,” Selina explained, even before Laura could ask what had happened.
“You must have been so shocked, sweetheart...” Laura spoke with a worried look on her face.
‘Huh? Mom isn’t angry?’ Selina wondered.
Selina had thought Laura would be angry because she had left so thoughtlessly without saying goodbye. Even earlier, when Laura opened Selina’s bedroom door, she had flung it open hard enough to look angry. But instead, Laura was wearing such a worried expression.
‘Mom has poured all her effort and wealth into planning this wedding. So I thought she’d definitely scold me,’ Selina thought, feeling slightly moved.
“Do you know how worried Mom was about you? You came home just like that without telling me anything,” Laura said.
“I’m sorry, Mom. Given the situation, I just wanted to leave that house as soon as possible,” Selina said remorsefully.
“Tell me everything. What really happened?” Laura urged.
“Well, it was... I found out by accident. When I was on my way to the farthest guest room on the second floor, I happened to hear suspicious sounds as I passed the first room after coming up the stairs. And it turned out that inside that room... I saw Raka making out with another woman,” Selina explained at length.
Selina’s three sisters were shocked by her explanation. Laura, however, reacted differently. Her mother looked calm and merely let out an incredulous sigh.
“Haah... So that’s what happened,” Laura said.
“Raka should be grateful I didn’t expose what he did and humiliate him in front of all the guests,” Selina fumed, trying to defend herself so Laura wouldn’t turn around and blame her instead.
“My child...” Laura said gently.
“How dare he...” Selina suddenly growled. She clenched her hands tightly, trying to hold back the emotions that had flared up without warning.
“After deciding to propose to one woman, he goes and sleeps with another. He couldn’t even control himself,” Selina said resentfully.
Selina wasn’t angry because she was jealous, but because she felt disrespected. From the very beginning, this marriage had never been based on love. She had only wanted to fulfill Laura’s wishes as a dutiful daughter.
“You must have been terribly shocked. Even Mom never expected this,” Laura added.
“I’m sorry, Mom... I didn’t know what to do about this...” Selina said remorsefully, feeling as though she had disappointed Laura.
“You don’t need to worry about it, my child. Mom will handle it. For now, you should get some rest.” Laura then soothed her youngest daughter.
“Thank you, Mom. It’s probably better if I go to sleep early so I don’t have to think about it anymore.”
Afterward, Laura and Nessa left Selina’s room, allowing her to rest and calm her mind. Anne and Anna, however, wanted to stay a little longer. The twins wanted to keep their youngest sister company for a while before returning to their respective homes.
“Haah... I’m going to age ten years dealing with this,” Laura complained as she took a sip of tea.
Laura was now sitting alone with Nessa, enjoying hot tea on the terrace.
“Even if that boy really wanted to do it so badly, he should have been able to control himself and know his limits. And if he was truly so aroused that he couldn’t hold back, why didn’t he do it somewhere else? Doing it in his own house while the party was being held there... it was unbelievably stupid and made no sense,” Laura complained at length.
