I never expected my life could be like something out of a drama. Now that I'm fifteen, it turns out I'm a switched-at-birth rich kid. Right now, a whole line of luxury cars has come to pick me up.
The people I'd always thought were my family turned out not to be. They stood beside me, glancing at the people getting out of the cars. A woman approached me. “We finally found you, my daughter.”
She hugged me as tears streamed down her face. I didn't know what to do. Was I supposed to cry too? But you can't force it. Everything had happened so suddenly that I didn't even know how I was supposed to act. So I just hugged her back.
Up until yesterday, I was still a Jaya family daughter, but today my name had changed to Amora Damanik. After reuniting with my mother, she took me home. The entire way there, she kept holding my hand, as if she couldn't bear to let go even for a second. From our conversation in the car, I learned about my biological family.
The Damanik family—a rich family. I didn't know exactly how rich they were, though I'd often heard my family's name in the news. Maybe they could feed a hundred people a day. I'd never seen anyone this wealthy up close before. The area where I'd lived with the Jaya family was a middle-class neighborhood, so the elite never came around—except for the people I'd just seen, of course, because my mother had specifically come to pick me up. She was accompanied by twenty bodyguards. Apparently, that was perfectly normal because so many people were after the Damanik family.
My family consisted of my mother, my father, two older brothers, and an adopted sister. That adopted sister was the child who had been switched with me. Since the Damanik family had raised her for so long, they couldn't bear to let her go, and she didn't want to return to the Jaya family either. In the end, the Damanik family adopted her. We were practically twin sisters since we'd been born on the same day.
My mother's name was Aria, my father's was James, my oldest brother was Jevan, my second-oldest brother was Jega, and my adopted sister's name was Anisa. I started thinking through all kinds of scenarios. If Anisa was nice, maybe we could be friends—even become like real sisters. But if she turned out to be nasty, I already knew how to deal with her.
Of course, I'd learned all of it from the dramas I used to watch. I'd already studied how to deal with all kinds of dirty tricks.
Before I knew it, we'd arrived home. Two guards opened the gate; it looked heavy. As the car passed through, they bowed their heads. When we reached the front door, the household staff were already there to welcome us. The bodyguards got out first, then a butler opened the car door beside my mother. We got out too.
“Welcome, Miss Amora.”
I was a little shocked. I hadn't imagined I'd be welcomed like this. All I could do was smile awkwardly. Seeing me like that, Mom gently took my hand and led me into the house. Inside were Dad, my two brothers, and Anisa. Mom began introducing them to me one by one again so I could get to know them.
Suddenly, Anisa snatched the hand Mom was holding. “I'm sorry. I never meant to take your place all this time,” Anisa said, wiping away her nonexistent tears.
Hah... I could already tell. She had no intention of letting me live in peace. She was already acting like this the moment I arrived—who knew what she'd do later? But it looked like my life was going to be very interesting from now on. Goodbye, peaceful life. Welcome to my drama-filled life.
