Chapter 2 - Office Hours
The afternoon meeting ran long and sour. Claire sat at the head of the glass table and watched three department heads argue over a campaign that should have been signed off a week ago. She let them talk themselves into corners. When the last of them finally ran out of excuses she closed her notebook with a soft, final sound.
“Revise it. I want a clean version on my desk by nine tomorrow. No more discussion.”
They filed out. Ethan remained, collecting the scattered printouts with the quiet efficiency she had come to expect. The door clicked shut behind the last of the creatives. For a moment the only sound was the low hum of the air conditioning and the distant traffic on the Embankment.
Claire did not look up from her tablet.
“Lock the door.”
Ethan paused. Then he crossed the room, turned the lock, and returned to the side of the table. His face was carefully blank. Only the slight tension in his jaw gave him away.
Claire set the tablet aside. “Come here.”
He moved around the table until he stood in front of her chair. She leaned back, studying him the way she had studied the campaign notes: assessing weak points, deciding where to apply pressure.
“You did well this morning with the revised packet,” she said. “The board noticed. So did I.”
Ethan said nothing. He was waiting. She liked that about him. He understood when silence was the correct response.
Claire rose. Even in heels she had to tilt her head slightly to meet his eyes. The height difference had never bothered her. If anything it made the next part cleaner.
“On your knees.”
For a fraction of a second something flickered across his face. Then he sank down onto the carpet, suit trousers stretching over his thighs, hands resting loosely on his knees. Claire looked down at him and felt the familiar low heat settle behind her ribs. Control. Availability. The knowledge that he would do as he was told because the alternative cost more than he was willing to pay.
She unfastened her trousers and pushed them down just far enough. No ceremony. No seduction. She stepped closer, one hand settling in his hair, and guided his mouth between her legs.
“You know what I want. Don’t make me wait.”
Ethan’s breath was warm against her. Then his tongue found her and she let her eyes close for a single controlled second. He was learning quickly. The night before had taught him the shape of her impatience. Today he applied the lesson with focus, licking into her with steady pressure, the way she preferred when time was limited.
Claire kept her hand in his hair, not forcing, simply holding him in place. Outside the locked door the office continued its ordinary afternoon. Phones rang. Someone laughed in the corridor. None of it touched the small, charged space she had claimed.
When the first real pulse of pleasure tightened low in her belly she tightened her fingers.
“Harder.”
He obeyed. The wet sound of his mouth against her was obscene in the quiet room. Claire’s free hand gripped the edge of the table. She did not allow herself to make noise. That was a rule she kept even when no one could hear. Control extended to the body as much as to the firm.
She came with her teeth sunk into her lower lip, thighs locked around his head, the orgasm sharp and functional rather than expansive. When the last tremor passed she released his hair and stepped back.
Ethan stayed on his knees, mouth slick, breathing uneven. His eyes had gone dark. The front of his trousers strained. Claire noted it with detached satisfaction.
“Stand up. Trousers open. Hands on the table.”
He rose and did as instructed. Claire moved behind him, one hand sliding around to close around his cock. He was hard, already leaking. She stroked him once, slowly, from base to tip, and felt the full-body tension that ran through him.
“You don’t come,” she said against his ear. “Not here. Not yet.”
She worked him with the same precise rhythm she used for everything else that mattered: firm, unhurried, designed to take him to the edge without tipping him over. Ethan’s knuckles whitened on the glass tabletop. A low sound escaped him when she tightened her grip and twisted on the upstroke.
“Quiet.”
He bit down on the sound. Claire continued until his breathing turned ragged and his hips began to push forward despite himself. Then she stopped, wiped her hand on a tissue from the box on her desk, and stepped away.
“Get dressed. You have the quarterly summary to finish before five.”
Ethan straightened his clothes with hands that were not entirely steady. When he turned to face her the professional mask was already sliding back into place, but the flush along his cheekbones remained.
Claire returned to her chair and picked up the tablet again.
“One more thing. The leak to the board. I have a shortlist of three people who could have accessed the numbers early. I want you to pull their access logs from the last six weeks. Quietly. No tickets, no trail. Bring me what you find tomorrow morning.”
Ethan’s eyes sharpened. This was the other half of the bargain. Not only the sex, but the trust. The access. The knowledge that she was pulling him deeper into the parts of the firm most people never saw.
“Understood.”
“Good. Unlock the door on your way out.”

By half past four the open-plan floor had thinned. Most of the juniors had left. A few account managers remained, heads down over laptops. Ethan sat at his desk outside Claire’s office and worked through the access logs with a focus that had nothing to do with the quarterly summary.
He found the first anomaly at 16:47. A login from a terminal that should have been offline. He flagged it, cross-checked the timestamps, and felt the familiar cold satisfaction of a pattern beginning to form.
Claire’s door opened.
“With me,” she said, already walking toward the lifts.
Ethan locked his screen and followed. They rode down in silence. In the mirrored wall of the lift he could see the faint mark at the corner of her mouth where she had bitten down earlier. No one else would notice. He noticed.
The executive washrooms on the thirty-first floor were rarely used after four. Claire pushed open the outer door, checked the stalls were empty, and locked it behind them. The space was all pale stone and soft lighting, designed to make senior staff feel expensive even while they washed their hands.
She turned to him.
“Trousers down. Hands on the basin.”
Ethan complied. The marble was cool under his palms. Behind him he heard the soft sound of Claire’s zipper, then the tear of a condom packet. A moment later her hand closed around him, rolling the latex down with brisk efficiency.
“Still hard,” she observed. “Good.”
She positioned herself and pushed into him from behind in one steady thrust. The sudden heat and pressure dragged a rough breath out of Ethan’s chest. Claire’s hands settled on his hips, holding him exactly where she wanted him.
“You don’t move unless I tell you,” she said. “You take what I give you.”
She fucked him with short, precise strokes, the kind that prioritised her angle over his comfort. Every time he started to push back she stilled until he stopped. The message was the same as the night before and the same as the office an hour earlier: she used him; he did not use her.
The risk sharpened everything. A cleaner could try the door. A director could need the facilities. The knowledge sat between them like a third presence, raising the heat under Ethan’s skin until he was gripping the basin hard enough to hurt.
Claire’s breathing changed. She drove deeper, one hand sliding around to stroke him in time with her hips. The dual sensation nearly undid him.
“Not yet,” she said, voice tight. “You wait.”
He held on through sheer force of will while she chased her own release against his back. When she came it was quieter than in the office, a controlled shudder and a soft, bitten-off sound. She kept moving through it, slower now, using the aftershocks, until Ethan was shaking with the effort of restraint.
Only then did she say, “Now.”
He came hard, forehead dropping toward the mirror, a broken noise escaping before he could stop it. Claire held him through it, one hand still wrapped around him, the other steady on his hip.
For a few seconds the only sound was their breathing and the faint drip of a tap someone had not fully closed.
Claire withdrew, dealt with the condom, and smoothed her clothing back into place with the same efficiency she brought to a board presentation. When she looked at Ethan again the professional mask was almost fully restored.
“Clean yourself up. Then go back to your desk and finish the summary. I want it in my inbox before you leave.”
She unlocked the door and stepped out without waiting for a reply.

Ethan returned to the thirty-second floor with his shirt re-tucked and his expression arranged into something that would pass for ordinary. The open-plan area was nearly empty now. Only the soft glow of a few remaining screens marked the late workers.
He sat down, opened the quarterly file, and tried to make the numbers behave. His body still hummed with residual heat. Every shift in the chair reminded him of what had just happened two floors below.
At 17:51 Claire’s door opened again. She stood in the doorway with her coat already on, bag over one shoulder.
“I’m leaving. Send the summary when it’s done. And Ethan.”
He looked up.
“The logs. Bring what you have tomorrow at eight. My office. Door closed.”
The words were professional. The look that accompanied them was not. For a moment the cool CEO mask slipped and he saw the same proprietary heat that had been in her eyes that morning. Then it was gone.
She left. Ethan watched the lift doors close behind her and exhaled slowly.
He was still staring at the screen when a voice spoke from the far side of the open-plan area.
“Working late, Cole?”
Ethan turned. Marcus Webb from Strategy stood by the photocopier, jacket over one arm, watching him with mild curiosity. Webb was one of the three names on Claire’s shortlist. The timing sat uncomfortably in Ethan’s gut.
“Just finishing the quarterly,” Ethan said. “You?”
“Forgot a file.” Webb’s gaze flicked toward Claire’s dark office, then back. “She left early. Unusual for her.”
“Board week. Everyone’s off schedule.”
Webb made a noncommittal sound. He collected whatever he had come for and headed toward the lifts. At the last moment he glanced back.
“You two seem to be working closely these days. Good for you. Just be careful how close.”
The words were light. The look was not. Ethan held his expression steady until the lift doors closed. Only then did he let his shoulders drop.
Someone was already watching. The arrangement Claire had offered him the night before was no longer private in the way either of them had assumed.
He turned back to the screen, saved the summary, and sent it to her inbox. Then he opened the access logs again and began to dig deeper. If Webb was fishing, Ethan needed to know how much the man already knew.
Outside the windows the London evening thickened into full dark. Inside, the only light left on the floor was the one over Ethan’s desk.
Tomorrow at eight. Door closed. He would bring her whatever the logs revealed. And he would wait to see what she required of him next.
