The Revenge Bride
Episode 2 — A Rainy-Day Meeting
Heavy rain was falling outside. Elena was lying in her room, scrolling on her phone. The weather had been bad since morning, so she didn't feel like going anywhere today.
Just then, her phone rang.
Elena: Hello?
Jason: What are you doing?
Elena: Nothing. I'm lying down.
Jason: Get ready. You're coming with me.
Elena: Right now?
Jason: Yes, right now.
Elena: Come on, I was going to relax. Now you're starting with all this pointless drama.
Jason: Hey, we're only going for a little while.
Elena: Where?
Jason: I'll tell you when we get there.
Elena: No, tell me first.
Jason: Elena, why do you always ask so many questions?
Elena: Because you always start taking me somewhere without telling me anything.
Jason: All right, all right. It's a beautiful place. It looks amazing in the rain.
Elena fell silent for a few moments.
Elena: How long will it take?
Jason: Not long. We'll be back in two or three hours.
Elena: Fine. Wait ten minutes.
Jason: I'm downstairs.
Elena: What? You're already here?
Jason: Yes.
Elena: You're such a drama king.
Jason: Hurry up.
The call ended.
Elena got up and went to change.
When Elena came downstairs, Jason was standing beside the car.
The moment he saw Elena, he smiled and said—
Jason: Shall we, ma'am?
Elena: You look awfully happy. Who knows where you're taking me?
Jason: Just get in.
Elena got into the car.
After a while, they set off.
The rain continued to fall. Water had pooled on the road.
Looking out the window, Elena said—
Elena: The whole of Milan is soaked today.
Jason: You like the rain, don't you?
Elena: Yes. I have since I was a kid.
Jason: I know.
Elena: You remember a lot.
Jason: I remember everything about you.
Elena smiled.
Elena: Really?
Jason: Yes.
They were both quiet for a while.
Then Elena asked—
Elena: By the way, where are we going?
Jason: We're almost there.
Elena: You really know how to annoy me.
Jason: But you still come with me.
Elena: Because I've known you since childhood.
Jason glanced at her, then focused on the road again.
About an hour later, the car stopped at a beautiful location.
When Elena looked outside, her eyes lit up.
There was a small waterfall in front of them. Because of the rain, the water was rushing even faster.
Tall bamboo trees surrounded the waterfall.
And right beside it stood a small cafe made of wood and bamboo.
Elena: Wow...
Jason turned off the car.
Jason: Do you like it?
Elena: It's beautiful.
Jason: Come on, let's sit inside.
They went into the cafe.
There weren't many people there.
A table by the window was empty, so they sat there.
Jason: What would you like?
Elena: Coffee.
Jason: Anything to eat?
Elena: No, I don't feel like eating right now.
Jason: Okay.
Jason ordered coffee.
After a while, they were sipping their coffee and looking outside.
Elena was enjoying watching the rain.
Elena: Jason...
Jason: Yeah?
Elena: When we get married, I'll come to a place like this with you.
Jason: After we get married, you won't let me go anywhere.
Elena: Why not?
Jason: You'll want to stay with me all the time.
Elena: Yes, I will.
They both laughed.
Elena turned to look outside again.
Just then, she noticed the bamboo grove.
She suddenly froze.
Elena: Jason...
Jason: What happened?
Elena: Someone is standing there.
Jason: Where?
Elena pointed ahead.
Elena: Behind those bamboo trees.
Jason looked in that direction.
Because of the rain and the trees, it was hard to see anything clearly.
Jason: Where is someone?
Elena: He was there just now. I saw him.
Jason: Maybe it was someone who came here to look around.
Elena: But he was looking this way.
Jason: Forget it.
Elena: I felt like he was watching us.
Jason: You always let your imagination run wild.
Elena looked outside again.
There was no one there now.
Elena: There really was someone there just now.
Jason: I'm sure there was. Come on, drink your coffee.
Elena shrugged.
Elena: Fine.
But she couldn't stop thinking about it.
About an hour later, the rain eased up a little.
Jason paid the bill.
Jason: Come on, let's go.
Elena: So soon?
Jason: You were the one who said we wouldn't stay long.
Elena: When did I say that?
Jason: You just said it.
Elena: Oh, really? Now you're going to use my own words against me?
Jason laughed.
Jason: Come on.
They left the cafe.
Stone steps led down beside the waterfall.
Jason started walking ahead.
Elena: Slow down.
Jason: Keep up.
Elena: You're always in such a hurry.
Jason: I'm waiting for you downstairs.
Jason deliberately walked a little farther ahead.
Elena fell behind.
She paused for a moment to adjust her bag.
Then she started down the steps.
Just then, a boy coming up quickly from below collided with her.
Elena: Oh!
Her foot slipped.
The boy immediately grabbed her hand.
Boy: Sorry! Sorry...
Elena regained her balance.
Then she looked up at him.
And the moment she did, she fell completely silent for a few seconds.
The boy was very handsome.
He was tall, with wet hair and raindrops on his face.
But the most striking thing about him was his eyes.
Elena stared at him for a few moments.
The boy was looking right back at her.
Neither of them said a word for several seconds.
Then Elena came to her senses.
She pulled her hand away.
Elena: Mister...
The boy seemed startled.
Boy: Yes?
Elena: Where is your mind?
Boy: I... well...
He looked a little embarrassed.
Boy: Sorry. I wasn't paying attention.
Elena: It's okay.
Elena moved on.
The boy remained where he was, watching her.
Elena went down a few more steps.
Then she turned around.
The boy was still looking at her.
Elena didn't pay much attention to it and continued down.
Jason was waiting for her at the bottom.
Jason: What took you so long?
Elena: I ran into a boy.
Jason immediately asked—
Jason: What boy?
Elena: I don't know.
Jason: What happened?
Elena: Nothing. He was coming from the other direction and wasn't paying attention.
Jason: I see.
Elena said with a laugh—
Elena: He was pretty strange.
Jason: Why?
Elena: He was looking at me like I'd done something incredible right in front of him.
Jason laughed.
Jason: Maybe you look really beautiful today.
Elena: Really?
Jason: Yes.
Elena was delighted.
Elena: Then I should get dressed like this every day.
Jason: You look good just the way you are.
Elena smiled.
Elena: Sometimes, you can be really sweet.
Jason: Sometimes?
Elena: Yes.
Jason: Come on, let's go home.
They started walking toward the car.
Elena looked back once more.
The boy was still standing there.
He was watching her leave.
Elena thought nothing of it and got into the car.
At that same place
Elena and Jason's car drove away.
The rain began falling heavily again.
The boy remained standing there.
His eyes stayed fixed on the path Elena had taken.
There was a different kind of happiness on his face today.
He smiled faintly.
Then his gaze shifted to the spot where Elena had been standing a short while earlier.
But one thing was clear from the smile on his face...
His collision with Elena probably hadn't been a mere coincidence.
Why had the boy come there in the first place?
And did Jason already know that Elena was going to run into him?
The End.
