The next morning, Wulan and Lina agreed to begin their investigation in a more organized way. They met in the small pantry reserved for the cleaning staff before work began.
“Sri, I thought about it last night. If we want to find out about Bella, we have to be more careful. We can’t let her get suspicious,” Lina said as she sipped her instant coffee.
“You’re right, Lina. We can’t act recklessly,” Wulan replied, nodding in agreement. “Any ideas on how we should start?”
“I heard from a few office boys that Bella often gets mysterious phone calls during work hours. They say she likes to lock herself in the third-floor restroom whenever one of those calls comes in,” Lina whispered.
“The third-floor restroom? Why hide if there’s nothing to hide?” Wulan murmured suspiciously.
“Exactly. It’s strange, Sri. I’m curious too,” Lina said with a nod. “What if we observe when she gets those calls today and look for a pattern?”
“All right. I’ll work near the third-floor elevators today,” Wulan said with a firm nod. “Can you help keep watch from the other side?”
“On it, Sri!”
That morning went by as usual. Wulan was assigned to wipe the windows and clean the area near the third-floor elevators, occasionally glancing toward the women’s restroom door. Around ten o’clock, Bella appeared in a hurry, her phone already pressed to her ear.
“Yes, yes, I’m going to the restroom first so I can talk freely,” Bella said softly before entering the restroom, unaware that Wulan was cleaning a mirror in the same corner of the room.
Wulan pretended to be busy wiping, but she listened carefully to every word.
“Morgan, don’t call me during work hours like this. It’ll be dangerous if someone hears,” Bella whispered from inside a stall.
Wulan froze for a moment when she heard the name. Morgan? Who was he?
“Yes, I know you miss me. I miss you too,” Bella’s voice softened, completely different from the coquettish tone she used with Adrian. “But be patient, okay? Everything will be taken care of soon. Once I officially become Adrian’s wife, we’ll have more freedom.”
Wulan’s heart pounded. She slowly moved closer to the stall, pretending to clean the sink nearby.
“The money? Don’t worry, I’ve arranged everything. Adrian completely trusts me now,” Bella continued, her voice full of confidence. “Besides, he’s so busy that he won’t suspect anything if I start getting access to some of the company’s financial accounts.”
Wulan held her breath, her hands clenching tightly as she struggled to contain her surging anger. So her suspicions had been right—Bella really was hiding a secret agenda behind her relationship with Adrian.
“That’s enough for now, Morgan. I’ll call you again once it’s safe,” Bella said before hanging up. Then she stepped out of the stall, her face once again wearing a sweet smile as if nothing had happened.
But the moment she saw Wulan near the sink, Bella’s expression turned wary. “What are you doing here?”
“I’m just cleaning the sink, ma’am,” Wulan replied calmly, though her heart was still in turmoil.
“Have you been here this whole time?” Bella asked suspiciously.
“I just got here, ma’am. I haven’t been here long,” Wulan lied calmly, trying not to show her nervousness.
Bella stared intently at Wulan, as if trying to find a lie on the woman’s face. “You’d better not start anything if you heard something.”
“I didn’t hear anything, ma’am. I’m just doing my job,” Wulan replied while continuing to wipe the sink, doing her best to act as naturally as possible.
Bella snorted in annoyance, then hurried away. Once she was sure Bella had gone far enough, Wulan immediately left to find Lina, who was working on the same floor.
“Lina!” Wulan called in a half-whisper as she approached the girl near the copy room.
“Sri, what is it? Did you find something?” Lina asked eagerly.
“I heard everything, Lina. Bella has a lover named Morgan,” Wulan whispered quickly. “And worse, she’s trying to take control of the company’s financial access!”
Lina’s eyes widened in shock. “Seriously, Sri?! So she really is just using Mr. Adrian for his money?”
“Looks like it,” Wulan said with a serious expression and a nod. “We need to find out more about this Morgan. Who is he really, and what does he have to do with Bella’s plans?”
“How can we do that, Sri? We’re just ordinary cleaners,” Lina said, looking confused.
“I have an idea,” Wulan replied, her gaze filled with determination. “But I need a little time to set it up. For now, the important thing is that we keep watching Bella without making her suspicious.”
“I’ll help however I can, Sri,” Lina said with a confident nod.
“Thank you, Lina.” Wulan smiled, though her worry was growing inside. “I’m afraid to imagine what will happen to Adrian and the company if we don’t act soon.”
“We can definitely stop her, Sri. I believe that,” Lina said, gripping Wulan’s hand reassuringly.
Wulan nodded slowly, her eyes fixed on Adrian’s office at the end of the hallway. Behind that door, her son was working with complete trust in the woman who was planning his own downfall.
“Just wait, Bella,” Wulan thought, her resolve burning stronger than ever. “I’ll expose every one of your masks before you manage to destroy my son’s life.”
