“Dad, what are we going to do?” Mia whispered.
“Stay calm. Dad’s going to be okay. Dad and Big Bro are definitely going to be fine,” Indah said, trying to calm her daughter, though her own heart was in turmoil.
“Is the family of the traffic accident victims here?” a doctor called as he stepped out of the ICU.
“Me! How are my son and my husband doing, Doctor?” Indah asked anxiously.
The doctor’s expression was ambiguous, but the grief on his face was unmistakable.
“What is it, Doctor? Don’t scare me. My husband and son are okay, right?” Indah asked in confusion.
“Your son only suffered bleeding in the head, which put him in critical condition. But he’s improved considerably now, and we’ll be moving him to a regular room,” the doctor explained.
“Thank goodness. What about my husband, Doctor? He’s okay too, right?” Indah asked.
The doctor only lowered his head, his face drawn with exhaustion.
“I’m sorry, ma’am, but we couldn’t save your husband,” the doctor said softly, still looking down.
“What?! No, that’s impossible!”
“Dad… It’s impossible, Dad,” Mia whispered, tears finally spilling from her eyes.
“What are we going to do now, Mom? How are we supposed to live without Dad?! We can’t rely on that Dira anymore, Mom,” Mia said, glancing at Indah.
“What?! Dad died?” Dira exclaimed.
“Yes. Come home quickly. The ambulance will be here any minute,” Aunt Imas, Dira’s neighbor, said.
“Okay, Auntie. I’ll get ready first. I’ll come straight home,” Dira replied.
“Okay. Be careful on the way,” Aunt Imas said.
“Okay.”
Beep!!
The call ended. When Dira heard that the father she hated so much had died, a sense of relief settled inside her.
But then, all of a sudden…
Brrring… Brrring…
Dira’s phone rang again.
Dira checked who was calling and saw that it was her husband, Arka.
Click.
“Hello,” Dira said.
“Come to the café. We need to talk,” Arka ordered.
“But—”
Beep!!
Without waiting for Dira to respond, Arka immediately ended the call.
Hah…
Dira could only sigh.
“Maybe this is the time,” Dira said, her gaze fixed on the table beside her bed.
Fifteen Minutes Later
Ding-a-ling…
The bell over the café door rang as Dira entered in the white dress she had kept all this time.
Dira looked left and right, searching for Arka, and then…
She saw Arka sitting at the farthest table in the café, with a woman sitting intimately beside him.
Dira walked over to the table and sat across from them.
“What is it?” Dira asked flatly, looking at the two of them.
“Who told you to sit down?” Arka snapped.
“How rude. Sitting down with your employer,” Talia added.
“Then I’ll leave. I have a lot to do,” Dira replied evenly.
Screech…
Dira shoved the chair back hard, making everyone in the café turn to look at them.
“You damn country girl, sit down!” Arka snarled, embarrassed when he saw everyone staring at him.
“What is it?” Dira asked again.
Rustle…
Suddenly, Arka pushed a neatly signed set of divorce papers across the table.
“If you agree to the divorce, I’ll give you ten billion, a luxury house, a car, and ten percent of the Vernan family’s company shares,” Arka offered.
Dira said nothing. She only glanced briefly at the divorce papers and the property agreement.
“Okay, I know you’re not satisfied with what I’m offering. This is my final offer,” Arka said.
“I’ll raise the money to fifty billion!” Arka continued.
“Honey! That’s too much. Ten billion is enough,” Talia said in shock.
“Shh, honey. Relax,” Arka replied.
Without hesitation, Arka changed the amount on the agreement from ten billion to fifty billion.
And without the slightest hesitation, Dira immediately said—
“Okay.”
She signed the divorce papers and the property agreement without a moment’s hesitation.
Arka and Talia looked as if their eyes were about to pop out of their heads, unable to believe that Dira had agreed to the divorce…
