Kasandra, the center of this whole mess, could only lower her head guiltily.
“Saka, I know you’re scared. But look at Kasandra. She’s already that pale. She can’t hold it in anymore, Ka.”
Saka clicked his tongue when he heard that.
“I don’t want to hear that from someone who doesn’t care whether he lives or dies like you.”
Rajawali still tried to stay calm. He took a few steps forward.
“Say whatever you want. I’m only doing this because I think what you’re doing is wrong.”
Seeing the entire class staring at him accusingly, Saka finally had no choice but to back down. He stepped away from the door.
“Whatever. Go ahead and leave if you want to die. Don’t drag me into it.”
A moment before Rajawali opened the door, Bram suddenly spoke up.
“You’re going alone, Ja? That’s way too dangerous.”
At Bram’s words, several students shuddered in fear. They were afraid they would be the ones asked to accompany Rajawali.
However, just before Raya could volunteer, Bram spoke again.
“It has to be a guy. I know you’re strong, Ray, but you’re still a girl. I’m not budging.”
Raya clicked her tongue at Bram’s words.
“Then who? Are there any volunteers willing to go out there, huh?”
“Me.”
Bram volunteered.
“I’m pretty confident in myself. I’ll go with Raja.”
Haidar immediately scoffed at that.
“Muscles aren’t everything, Bram. You can’t die before we make it back home. I’m against this.”
Bram clicked his tongue. Now everyone fell silent.
Then Koko spoke up hesitantly.
“I-I actually want to help, but I’m scared of dying. Sorry...”
Hearing that confession, some of the students nodded. They felt the same fear as Koko.
“I’ll go with Raja.”
Asa suddenly volunteered.
Bram shook his head.
“I already said it has to be a guy, Sa.”
Asa hissed.
“I’m strong. I’m stronger than all of you cowards who won’t do a damn thing. You’re all weak. I’m going out there, and I don’t care what any of you think.”
Bram sighed.
“Okay, we all know you’re strong. You know how to fight, and you’re not exactly girly, but... what you’re facing now isn’t human, Sa. It’s a monster. A monster, Sa!”
“I don’t care. It’s my decision. Raja shouldn’t have to go there alone, so I’ll go with him. Besides, you’re all scared, right? What we need here isn’t just strength. We need guts and confidence. You should know that, Bram.”
The entire class fell silent at Asa’s long speech. Asa was usually not much of a talker, and she did not care much about what was happening around her either. Rajawali had changed her.
“Anyone who gets in my way is crazy. You’re wasting time. Kasandra really needs to use the bathroom.”
Asa spoke again. Then she walked over to Raja.
Rajawali shook his head.
“I’ll go alone, Sa—”
“You don’t trust me either?”
Rajawali fell silent.
“That’s not what I meant, Sa—”
“If you trust me, hurry up and open this door so we can check. The bathroom isn’t far from this classroom. We only have to check the hallway in front of the class. Hurry.”
At Asa’s words, Rajawali hesitantly reached for the doorknob.
“Come on, Ja. I’m not going to let you die.”
Rajawali stared at her in shock.
However, just before Rajawali could open the door, Saka suddenly screamed.
“ARGHHHH!!! FUCK!!!!”
The entire class immediately fell silent.
Saka then strode quickly toward the door. He shoved Asa away from it. Before Asa could even protest, Saka spoke again.
“Let me! I’m going out with Raja!”
