“Dinda!”
Dinda’s body crumpled to the floor. Her face was deathly pale.
Blood kept streaming from between her thighs, soaking the restaurant floor.
Panji, who had been standing there with an irritated look on his face, suddenly panicked.
“Dinda!”
He crouched beside his wife’s body.
“Dinda, wake up!”
Panji shook Dinda’s shoulders. But the woman didn’t move at all.
“Dinda! Oh my God! What do we do, Mom?” Panji looked frantic.
Mrs. Tika immediately rose from her chair. “Why isn’t she waking up? Could she really be dying?”
Mita began to panic when she saw the blood spreading.
“Mom... there’s so much blood.”
“Don’t just stand there! Hurry and get her to the hospital!” Mrs. Tika yelled at Panji.
Panji stared at Dinda’s body, his face pale.
“I... I didn’t mean to push her.”
Mita immediately cut in.
“Now isn’t the time to explain!”
“But if she hadn’t shown up—”
“Enough!”
Mrs. Tika cut off her son.
“If something happens to her, you’re the one who’ll be in trouble!”
Panji swallowed hard. He hurriedly lifted Dinda into his arms.
“Help me!”
Mita quickly grabbed Dinda’s bag.
“Mom, what about Jesika?”
Jesika stood there, her face full of concern.
“I’m coming with you.”
Mrs. Tika nodded.
“Go ahead.”
Panji glanced at Jesika.
“Let’s go.”
They all hurried out of the restaurant, leaving some money with the waitstaff to clean up the blood Dinda had spilled across the floor.
As soon as they arrived at the hospital, Panji shouted for help.
“Please! My wife is hemorrhaging!”
Several staff members rushed over with a gurney. Dinda was immediately taken into the emergency room.
Panji tried to follow, but a nurse stopped him.
“I’m sorry, sir. Family members have to wait outside.”
“But I’m her husband.”
“The doctor is treating the patient. Please wait.”
Panji stood rigidly as the emergency room doors closed in front of him. Mrs. Tika approached him.
“How is she, son?”
“They told us to wait outside, Mom.”
Mrs. Tika nodded.
“What if something happens to her, Mom?” Mita looked panicked.
Mrs. Tika shot her daughter a sharp look. “Don’t panic yet!”
“But there was so much blood, Mom.”
“Quiet!”
Mrs. Tika was terrified herself, but she didn’t want to show it.
Panji paced back and forth, his face filled with worry and fear.
“Why did she have to come to the restaurant?” he complained.
Mita stared at her brother.
“Then why did you push her?”
“I didn’t mean to!”
“But you did push her.”
“I just wanted her to leave!” Panji shot back.
“If you hadn’t engaged with her in the first place, none of this would have happened, son,” Mrs. Tika said.
“You’re the one who told me to propose to Jesika at that restaurant, Mom. I was going to take her somewhere a little more private.”
“You’re blaming me?”
“That’s not what I mean, Mom.”
“All I know is, I never told you to push your wife!”
“Enough, enough!”
Andi, Panji’s father, finally spoke up.
“Don’t blame each other in a hospital. It’s unpleasant for everyone to hear.”
Everyone immediately fell silent.
Not long afterward, Jesika came over and stood beside Panji. Her hand slowly closed around his arm.
“Panji...” He turned toward her.
“What is it?” Jesika smiled gently.
“Don’t worry about Dinda too much.”
Panji frowned. “But she’s hemorrhaging. And the baby she’s carrying is mine.”
“I know.” Jesika moved closer and wrapped her arms around Panji’s.
“But if something happens to Dinda’s baby...”
“Don’t be afraid. Everything will be fine.” Jesika stroked Panji’s arm.
“Honey, I want to tell you something.”
“What is it?” Jesika took a breath.
“If Dinda’s baby can’t be saved... you don’t need to be confused.”
Panji fell silent. Then Jesika gave him a sweet smile.
“Why shouldn’t I be confused?”
“Because I’m pregnant with your baby too.”
Panji’s eyes widened.
“What? I didn’t hear that wrong, did I? You’re really pregnant?”
Jesika nodded.
“Yes, honey. I’m pregnant. Two months already.”
“You’re serious, sweetheart?”
“Yes.”
For the first time since Dinda had been taken into the emergency room, Panji’s face lit up again.
“I’ve actually wanted to tell you for weeks.”
Panji took Jesika’s hand. “Then why are you only telling me now?”
“I was afraid you weren’t ready.”
Panji smiled.
“Don’t be afraid. I’m ready. More than ready.”
Jesika looked at Panji hopefully.
“Really, honey?”
“Yes. And I’m going to marry you very soon.”
Jesika smiled broadly.
“You promise, honey?”
“Yes, I promise.”
Mrs. Tika, who had overheard the conversation, smiled too.
“Then you have my approval.”
Mita immediately chimed in.
“You have mine too.”
Andi nodded.
“If Jesika is carrying your child, don’t put it off.”
Panji felt even more certain.
“I’ll marry Jesika soon.”
Meanwhile, behind the emergency room doors, Dinda was fighting for her life. But her husband and in-laws were even more eager to discuss Panji and Jesika’s wedding.
