By the time Damian arrived at the office, his emotions hadn't settled down. If anything, they had reached an even higher pitch.
It wasn't because his workload was piling up, but because the shameless woman who was now in his office had shown up again. He had no idea what her goal was, but for the past week, she had come to the office every day.
And Damian was sick of it.
The beautiful, fair-skinned woman with long, curly hair was wearing a bright red, sleeveless, knee-length dress. The color once again reminded Damian of the woman with eyes as cold as the poles whom he'd met the night before.
Ah... not that he had any intention of thinking about her.
“Good morning, Mr. Damian Cole!”
The formal greeting broke through his thoughts.
Damian turned around.
Her name was Nora Hayes.
She wasn't a stranger to Damian. But one thing was certain: Nora wasn't someone he wanted to know again.
Nora greeted Damian's arrival with a wide smile. In response, she received only a cold stare and an expressionless face.
The woman who was none other than Damian's ex-girlfriend then rose from her chair and walked toward him. She even tried to put her arm around his, but Damian brushed her hand away first.
Act sweet to that woman?
That was no longer in Damian's vocabulary.
The betrayal and humiliation Nora had inflicted on him years ago were more than enough reason for Damian to hate her.
“What do you want here this time?” Damian asked, unwilling to make small talk. “You're still not ashamed after I've rejected and thrown you out every day?”
Damian had buried Nora's presence—both in his heart and in his mind—deep down. He didn't want to remember anything about that woman anymore.
And one thing was certain: Damian truly didn't want to see her again.
“Nothing. I just wanna see you.” Nora smiled faintly. “There are so many things I want to talk to you about. But... you're so hard to talk to.”
Damian didn't answer.
He strode quickly to his desk and began keeping busy with the stacks of files scattered across it.
“There is nothing left for us to discuss. You'd better leave my office now.”
Damian deliberately changed the way he spoke. Using formal language was his way of drawing a clear boundary with Nora.
They were no longer like they used to be.
To Damian, they were now nothing more than two strangers who had once known each other in the past.
“Come on, Damian.”
Instead, Nora sat on Damian's desk with her legs crossed. It was incredibly rude.
“You know there's something between us that hasn't been resolved,” she continued.
Damian frowned briefly. But he chose not to respond.
“Leave now, or I'll call security.”
This time, Damian's voice sounded firmer. He was truly sick of having that woman around.
But Nora only smiled.
She didn't look afraid of Damian's threat at all.
“Damian... Damian...” Nora slowly shook her head. “Have you really forgotten what happened that night?”
She let out a quiet chuckle.
“Whoa... incredible. That was an unforgettable night for me.”
“What do you mean?”
Damian's gaze sharpened. He truly had no idea where Nora was going with this.
Instead, Nora stepped closer.
She bent forward slightly, then whispered something right beside Damian's ear. A victorious smile spread across her face.
Damian's eyes instantly widened.
“Stop hallucinating!” Damian glared at her. “I never even touched you, Nora.”
Nora chuckled.
“Go ahead and deny it. But I have proof.”
Proof?
What proof was she talking about?
This woman had truly gone insane.
“Yeah, I understand if you don't remember that passionate night,” Nora continued casually. “You were completely drunk.”
Nora's words made Damian's head spin even more.
Damian remembered perfectly when he first discovered alcohol and started drinking until he got drunk.
It happened after he learned of Nora's betrayal.
So how could Nora have suddenly appeared at the club that night and claimed that she'd slept with him?
Wasn't she just as unwilling to see Damian?
“Stop making up stories and leave my office.”
Damian drove her out again. He didn't want to be influenced, much less tricked, by Nora's words.
Sleep with that woman?
The thought had never even crossed his mind.
Besides, they hadn't seen each other at all since five years ago.
Nora was clearly making it up.
“Okay. I'm leaving now.” Nora stood up from Damian's desk. “But next time, I'll come back. And make sure you remember everything by then, Mr. Cole.”
Nora then walked out of the office with complete confidence.
From her expression, it was obvious she felt victorious after successfully upsetting Damian that morning.
As soon as Nora left, Damian exhaled harshly.
His jaw tightened. His thick brows drew together.
He tried desperately to remember what had actually happened that night.
Damian was absolutely certain he had never done what Nora accused him of.
And yet, for some reason, the woman's utter confidence began to make him doubt his own memory.
For the first time, a question troubled his mind.
Dear God... what really happened that night?
