In Sumberwangi Village, no bride ever wears a black kebaya, because tradition says the color belongs only to women who died before speaking their vows. Maya, a twenty-seven-year-old tailor who has never believed in the taboo, accepts a commission from a pale stranger for a black kebaya embroidered with jasmine, due in three nights for a bride named Sekar.
