“Before that, there’s something I’d like to ask. Has the patient ever suffered from a mental illness? Or perhaps depression?”
“Our daughter is healthy, Doctor! Her mind and body are perfectly fine!” Rinjani snapped, slightly annoyed at hearing the doctor say something like that.
“I’m sorry, ma’am. I didn’t mean anything by it! But considering the patient’s condition—she keeps hallucinating as if she feels like her body is burning—it seems there may be something wrong with her mental health.”
Rinjani and Denis were instantly heartbroken by the doctor’s explanation. They never imagined that their beloved beautiful daughter was now going through something so devastating.
“Then what should we do, Doctor?” Denis asked.
“Try making an appointment with a psychiatrist. That way, you might be able to find out more about the patient’s mental health.”
“All right, Doctor. We’ll follow your advice!” Denis replied, trying to stay strong. Rinjani, meanwhile, could not stop crying after hearing the doctor suggest that they take Liana to a psychiatrist.
After the doctor left, Rinjani took out her anger on Denis. “What were you thinking, Dad? Our daughter isn’t crazy! Liana’s perfectly fine! Why did you agree to take her to a psychiatrist? Can you imagine how devastated Liana will be when she finds out her parents think she’s crazy?” Rinjani said through her tears.
“I didn’t mean it that way, Mom. I just want to do what’s best for Liana’s health. What if we find out too late? Can you imagine what might happen to Liana?”
Rinjani could not say anything. Her husband was right. She did not want anything bad to happen to Liana.
Liana finally regained consciousness and was moved to a hospital room. Her eyes looked empty, and not a single word came out of her mouth.
“Li, how are you feeling now?” Rinjani asked carefully.
Liana merely sat still, showing no response to the person speaking to her.
Rinjani and Denis exchanged glances, and then Denis left the room. The moment Debi saw her father leave, she ran after him.
“Dad, where are you going?” Debi asked.
“I’m going to see the psychiatrist at this hospital! I need to make an appointment to have Liana’s condition examined.”
“I’ll do it, Dad. You stay with Mom!”
“All right, then. I’ll leave it to you!”
“Okay, Dad.” Debi then went to see the psychiatrist.
“Mom,” Liana called softly.
“Yes, honey. What do you need?” Rinjani replied.
Liana shook her head.
“Does it still hurt?” Rinjani asked again.
“The wound is already healed, Mom,” Liana murmured.
Rinjani was shocked to hear Liana’s words. How could burns that severe have healed overnight?
Curious, Rinjani tried to unwrap a small portion of the bandage covering Liana’s wound.
Rinjani was utterly stunned when she saw that there was no longer a single wound on Liana’s body. She checked the rest of Liana’s body, but the result was the same. The wounds had vanished without a trace, as if they had never existed.
“What’s wrong, Mom?” Denis asked when he saw how shocked Rinjani looked.
“T-The wound, Dad,” Rinjani stammered.
“What about the wound?” Denis asked, confused.
“T-The wound is gone, Dad!”
“What?!” Denis tried to make sure he had heard Rinjani correctly. He was utterly shocked when he realized she was telling the truth.
“How is that possible…” Denis’s words trailed off as his gaze shifted to Liana, who looked completely normal.
“Liana, what’s really happening to you?” Denis asked, his feelings impossible to put into words.
Liana did not answer. She simply sat there expressionlessly. “Answer me, Liana!” Denis shouted when he failed to get a response from her.
Denis’s anger came from his inability to believe what he had just experienced—a supernatural event beyond reason that had happened to his only daughter.
The truth was that while Liana was unconscious, she had once again dreamed of visiting Ether Valley. There, she met the mysterious man she had encountered before.
“Forgive me. This is all my fault! Because I wasn’t strong enough, you had to suffer through all of this!” the mysterious man said softly.
Liana could only remain silent. She was too confused by the situation she found herself in to say a word.
