The servant led Anastasya to the right, in the opposite direction from where she had been about to go.
Then, after passing through the fairly spacious corridor, she saw a beautiful balcony with a long bench in front of a room, apparently meant as a place to relax.
The male servant began explaining the layout of the upper floor to Anastasya, one room at a time.
“From here, you can see there are four rooms. The one farthest to the right belongs to Mr. Abraham and his wife,” the servant told Anastasya.
“Yes,” Anastasya replied.
“Then the second room on the right, after Mr. Abraham’s room, belongs to Miss Vivi,” the servant continued. Anastasya could only nod.
“And on the left, the room at the very end is occupied by Mr. David, while the second room on the left is vacant. It’s usually used by relatives of this family who come to visit,” the servant said.
“Do you understand?” the servant asked.
“Yes, sir,” Anastasya answered with a nod.
“Okay.”
“Now, as for the rooms over there, the ones facing the backyard: the one farthest to the right belongs to Mr. Alex, while the other three are unoccupied. However, they’re usually used by important guests who know Mr. Abraham, or by Mr. Alex’s friends, Mr. David’s friends, or Miss Vivi’s friends. Do you understand?” the servant asked.
“Y-yes, sir. I understand,” Anastasya said.
“Good … Oh, right, one more thing. We haven’t introduced ourselves yet. I’m Alan, one of the servants of the Abraham family,” the man said, introducing himself to Anastasya.
“I’m Anastasya, the new maid here,” Anastasya said, introducing herself to Alan as well.
“All right, Anastasya, now we’ve met. Is there anything else you’d like to ask me?” Alan asked Anastasya.
“I don’t think so, sir,” Anastasya replied.
Alan nodded and said, “In that case, please get to work.”
“All right. Thank you, Mr. Alan,” Anastasya said.
“Yeah,” Alan replied.
After Alan went downstairs, leaving Anastasya upstairs, she began walking toward the rooms, starting with the one at the very end—David’s room. Her job was to tidy the rooms.
When she opened the door, she found that the room was already very neat and comfortable, with nothing out of place. There was a computer desk, along with work equipment.
So Anastasya decided to simply sweep up the dust and mop the floor before leaving the room. She also wiped down several things inside, including the computer. However, Anastasya was a little confused by the instructions she had received.
“This is so strange. They told me to tidy it up, but it’s already this clean and neat. Did someone clean this room before I got here?” Anastasya wondered to herself.
As she was about to leave the room at the very end, a man suddenly stepped out from inside and cleared his throat.
“Ahem …”
Anastasya jumped and immediately turned around. Without thinking, she said, “Huh? There’s someone here? There wasn’t anyone before. Is he a ghost?” she muttered under her breath.
“What did you say?” the handsome man in glasses asked, as though he had heard Anastasya’s complaint.
He was David, the man Anastasya had seen getting out of the car earlier. David’s presence made Anastasya realize something, and she began to grow frightened when she remembered that handsome face.
“You called someone this handsome a ghost?” David said.
“I-I’m sorry, sir …” Anastasya stammered. But David acted indifferent toward her.
“Sorry, sorry. Besides, if you wanted to enter my room, you should’ve knocked first instead of barging in like that! Or were you trying to peek at me while I was showering?” David asked, crossing his arms in front of Anastasya.
Anastasya felt guilty again and could only shake her head over and over.
Then David said, “As punishment, go into my room and clean up the trash scattered across the floor.”
“Huh? But it’s already clean, isn’t it?” Anastasya asked, confused.
“Get in! Are you blind?” David said coldly.
“Y-yes, sir,” Anastasya said, her face pale.
Anastasya went back into David’s room, with the handsome man following behind her. But Anastasya still couldn’t find where the mess was.
Seeing Anastasya looking confused in his room, David led her to another room. Anastasya looked puzzled when she saw it.
“Huh? There’s another room here? How is that possible?” Anastasya asked, bewildered.
The room had been hidden behind a curtain attached to the wall, so it couldn’t be seen. Anastasya had only just noticed it.
“What do you mean, how is that possible? Hurry up and sweep,” David ordered firmly.
There were many crumpled pieces of paper scattered across the floor, but Anastasya didn’t know what they were.
Clearly, even if she opened the crumpled papers, Anastasya wouldn’t know what they said, because she couldn’t read or recognize letters. So she could only follow David’s orders.
As additional information, that room was David’s personal library.
The man had collected a great many books and stored them in that room.
Once Anastasya had gathered the crumpled papers and put them into a container, David allowed her to leave his room.
“Okay, you can go. And I hope that next time you’ll understand this room better. Don’t leave any more trash in my room,” David told Anastasya.
“Y-yes, sir. Excuse me,” Anastasya said, lowering her head in front of David.
She felt even more distressed by the strange things in the grand house. But Anastasya still wanted to endure it for her mother and younger sibling.
After leaving David’s room, Anastasya said to herself, “Oh God, I’ve only met one person and he’s already scared me half to death. What about the others? Give me strength, Lord. I hope I can stay working here,” Anastasya prayed, clutching her chest.
Then she headed to Vivi’s room, but when she knocked on the door, Vivi turned out to be inside.
“Yeah, this is what my room looks like. But it’s already clean,” Vivi said with a smile at Anastasya.
“S-so what should I do, Miss?” Anastasya asked, looking confused.
“You’d better go to Alex’s room. It’s usually a little messy in there. You should check it yourself,” Vivi suggested.
“A-all right, Miss. Excuse me,” Anastasya said to Vivi.
“Yeah,” Vivi replied.
Without thinking about Mr. Abraham’s room, Anastasya headed toward the balcony at the back and decided to clean Alex’s room. But when she knocked on the door, there was no answer from inside.
“May I come in, sir? I was ordered to clean this room,” Anastasya asked, seeking permission from the room’s owner.
Silence. There was no response at all.
So Anastasya decided to gather her courage and open the door. It wasn’t locked. But when she looked inside, Anastasya was utterly shocked.
The smell of alcohol greeted her from the doorway, making Anastasya uncomfortable with the state of the room.
