Gery had just finished drafting the announcement for the secretary position Reno had requested that morning. He felt everything was exactly what his boss wanted.
“Finally… my suffering is slowly going to ease up,” Gery muttered, staring at the documents in his hand with a broad smile on his face.
Gery was thrilled because once Reno had a secretary, his workload would lessen a little. For the past few months, in addition to handling his own duties, Gery had also been doing the work that should have been handled by a secretary. You could say he was pulling double duty.
Not wanting to waste any time, Gery rose from his chair and headed for Reno’s office.
After knocking several times, he entered with long, confident strides.
“Here you go, Sir! I made it just the way you asked,” Gery said, holding out the documents he had brought.
Reno accepted the documents and opened them. He skimmed through them, then closed the file again.
“Okay. Everything looks good,” Reno said.
He then handed the documents back to Gery.
“Can I post it now, Sir?”
Reno nodded firmly. “Isn’t sooner better?” he replied, raising one eyebrow.
“Yes, Sir. I’ll do it right away,” Gery said.
Gery excused himself and left Reno’s office. He was going to carry out the order he had just received.
Resa was still at Melati’s apartment. Yes, the girl had been there since yesterday. She claimed she wanted to keep Melati company, even though Melati had already told Resa to go home.
At the moment, Melati and Resa were watching a drama on television. Both of them seemed focused on the show in front of them, although Resa occasionally checked her phone.
“Mel, look at this! See? What did I tell you?” Resa said, nudging Melati’s arm while keeping her eyes on the phone’s screen.
“What is it, Res?” Melati glanced over, then turned her attention to Resa’s phone.
Her eyes widened. “Are you se-rious?” Melati asked doubtfully.
“Of course I’m serious. Do you think people like them have time to mess around?” Resa replied sarcastically.
“You should try. Besides, you already have experience,” Resa continued.
Melati thought for a moment. Then her expression fell. Who knew what was going through the girl’s mind?
“But this is a big company. I don’t really think they’ll accept me,” Melati said pessimistically.
Resa snorted in annoyance when she heard Melati’s words. She was irritated that Melati was doubting her own abilities before even trying.
“This isn’t the Melati I know. What’s wrong with you, Mel? You haven’t even tried yet,” Resa replied.
Melati let out a long sigh. “I’m just scared, Res. I’m afraid I’ll go through the same thing again.” Melati’s gaze turned sad.
It was only natural for her to think that way, because what had happened had been incredibly painful for her. Melati was afraid the same thing would happen again.
Resa touched the back of her friend’s hand. “Don’t think like that, Mel! We won’t know unless we try. Besides, I really believe everything will work out this time,” Resa said, encouraging Melati.
Melati smiled—or rather, forced herself to smile.
“Thanks, Res! I’ll give it a shot,” Melati said.
“That’s more like it! Now that’s my best friend.”
The two girls hugged each other. “Thanks, Res! You’ve been there for me through every situation in my life. I’m so grateful to have a friend like you.”
“You’re only just realizing you have a friend as wonderful as me?” Resa said as she let go of their hug.
Resa’s expression had now become irritating—at least in Melati’s eyes.
Melati clicked her tongue in annoyance. She regretted complimenting the girl beside her.
“I regret talking to you.”
“Whatever! I don’t want to hear it. If you get accepted, you have to take me out for a nice meal somewhere fancy,” Resa said, tapping her chin.
“Okay!”
Resa had just told Melati about a job opening that suited her. That was why Resa was so enthusiastic about getting Melati to apply. Although Melati had initially doubted she would be accepted, she would still give it a try.
After preparing the required documents, Melati got ready for bed. Resa, meanwhile, had already fallen asleep before her. She was still spending the night at Melati’s apartment. She wanted to take Melati to work tomorrow before heading off to her own job.
