That morning, Melati woke up earlier than usual. She immediately headed to the bathroom to freshen up.
Melati didn't want to arrive late. Besides, the office she was going to was quite far from where she lived.
After showering, Melati got ready. Earlier, she had woken Resa and told her to get ready too. Resa had said the night before that she would accompany Melati today.
"You made sure you didn't leave anything behind, right, Mel?" Resa asked when they were both standing at the apartment door.
Melati shook her head. "I put everything in my bag," she replied.
"All right! Let's go!"
They walked to the parking lot. Resa was going to drive Melati there.
"If we leave at this hour, we shouldn't get stuck in traffic," Resa said.
They had just left the apartment complex and were heading to their destination. Melati was mostly quiet throughout the trip. Every now and then, she took in the streets as they gradually grew busier.
After nearly half an hour of driving, Resa's car pulled up in front of a luxurious-looking building.
"This is the place?" Melati asked, looking around.
"Yeah, this is it. I don't think I got it wrong," Resa replied as she checked her phone.
Once she had made absolutely sure that Melati had the right address, Resa left her. Resa had to go to work too.
Melati walked forward, feeling a little nervous. Every now and then, she twisted the hem of the blouse she was wearing.
"Relax, Mel! Everything's going to be fine."
Melati went straight to the room she had been told about earlier. Several people who were also there for interviews were already waiting inside.
"Excuse me! Has the interview started yet?" Melati asked gently, addressing one of the women sitting in the waiting area.
"Not yet! Maybe soon," the woman replied.
"Thanks!"
Melati sat down to wait with the others. Fortunately, she wasn't late.
After waiting for about fifteen minutes, the interviews finally began. There were around ten people to be interviewed, while only one position was available.
They were called into the room one by one for their interviews. Now it was Melati's turn.
"I hope it goes well," Melati murmured before stepping inside.
Melati had thought only one person would be interviewing her. But she was wrong. There were two men sitting in front of her.
Melati looked at them uncertainly.
"Can we begin?" one of them asked.
"Y-yes, Sir," Melati replied, slightly nervous.
The interview began. Melati did her best to answer all the questions they asked her. The interview lasted nearly half an hour.
"If you're selected, will you be willing to accept the position?" This time, the question came from the other man, who had been mostly quiet until then.
Melati furrowed her brow. Then she nodded quickly.
"Of course I will, Sir," Melati said firmly.
The man merely answered with a brief nod.
"In that case, we'll end things here."
"All right, Sir. Thank you very much!" Melati rose from her chair. She bowed her head slightly before leaving the room.
"What do you think, Sir?" Gery asked, breaking the silence.
Reno, who had just been lost in thought, immediately snapped back to reality. "What about it?" Reno asked in return.
Gery let out a soft hiss. "The one who just left, Sir?"
Reno appeared to think for a moment. "She wasn't the last person, was she?" Reno asked, wanting to make sure.
Of course, Reno wanted the best person. If possible, he wanted someone who not only had the skills he needed, but was also intelligent and had ideas that could bring new progress to his company.
"No, Sir. There are still three more people."
"All right. Go call them in right away so we can finish faster."
Gery went back outside and called in the next person to be interviewed.
