Daniel eventually arrived at a small village nestled between green hills.
There were no tall buildings, traffic jams, or endless advertisements.
He rented a small room above a bakery.
The baker, Mrs. Clara, was a cheerful woman in her sixties.
Every morning, she woke before sunrise to bake bread.
One day, Daniel asked her, “Don’t you get tired of doing the same thing every day?”
She smiled.
“Of course I do.”
“Then why keep going?”
She set a warm loaf of bread on the table.
“Because someone will wake up tomorrow and need this bread.”
Daniel looked at her.
“That’s all it takes?”
“Sometimes,” she replied, “the meaning of life isn’t something grand. Sometimes it’s simply knowing that your existence makes someone’s morning a little better.”
Daniel began helping at the bakery.
For the first time in years, he went to sleep feeling useful.
