Laura Katrina. She was an unfortunate widow with five children and not enough wealth to support them comfortably. But that did not make her sad, because all five of her daughters had inherited her beauty. To her, that was a tremendous asset.
It began with the marriage of her eldest daughter, Nessa, to Bernard, a real estate businessman. Laura did not even object to Bernard being an older widower.
After that, Laura married off her second daughter, Rena, to an extremely wealthy prosecutor. Though in the end, that marriage fell apart.
Laura managed to elevate her social standing through the marriages of her two daughters. That drove her to continue pursuing marriage strategies to raise her status even higher among the social elite.
And so it went. Laura's third daughter, Anne, succeeded in attracting the attention of Dante, a successful young judge at the time.
Then came Anna, Anne's twin and Laura's fourth daughter. Since she had already made a name for herself in high society, Anna only had to choose from the many marriage proposals sent her way.
Laura became the queen of high society solely through the connections she had gained from her sons-in-law.
Laura also grew increasingly ambitious to reach the very top, relying on her youngest daughter, Selina. She had even given Selina the strictest education of all five of her daughters.
Her other daughters supported Laura as well, offering whatever assistance they could through their respective husbands.
In the end, Laura chose Raka, a member of a conglomerate family with inherited wealth that required no hard work to maintain—and the most powerful family among the wealthy.
Raka was the nephew of the aunt who was married to the head of that conglomerate family. He was handsome, and he was also every woman's dream of an ideal husband.
At first, Selina's older sisters tried to stop their mother from pursuing the plan. They thought it was too much to ask for one of the wealthiest conglomerate family's members. But eventually, they agreed because Selina herself had no objection to their mother's wishes.
Since their beloved baby sister had made her decision, they helped Selina grow closer to Raka through their husbands' respective connections.
And in the end, they succeeded. In less than four months, Raka had already promised to get engaged to Selina. But now everything had fallen apart because of Raka's own mistake.
'People are definitely going to talk about this, aren't they?' Selina thought as she stared at her empty ring finger. She had once imagined wearing a diamond ring there.
'It's okay. I should actually be happy, shouldn't I? At least I found out before everything had already begun,' Selina convinced herself.
'But this definitely isn't going to stop at an ordinary scandal.' Exhausted, Selina let her hand fall onto the bed and stared at the clean-toned ceiling of her room.
CRASH!!
"Selina!!" Laura shouted her name as she flung open the bedroom door.
Selina sat bolt upright. She was utterly startled by her mother's sudden outburst. And it wasn't just her mother—her older sisters had followed close behind her as well.
"My baby, are you all right?" Laura asked anxiously, gripping both of Selina's shoulders.
"... Mom..."
