Mom and Dad went off somewhere. That left me with Jevan and Anisa. Jevan explained that the Damanik family home wasn't especially large. More of the property had been turned into gardens than into the house itself. The gardens were huge, while the house had only a few bedrooms.
The house had three floors, with all the bedrooms on the second floor. The first floor was reserved for the kitchen, living room, laundry room, and other activity spaces. The largest bedroom belonged to Mom and Dad. Jevan's room was next to it, Anisa's was in the middle, and then came Jega's room. At the far right end was an unoccupied room. It was also the smallest.
The third floor contained only Dad's office. I hadn't brought anything from the Jaya family home because I didn't own anything in the first place. The clothes I wore had always been hand-me-downs from my cousins, given to me because they were too small for them. So all I brought was the clothes I had on and my gold necklace.
Jevan and Anisa took me to Anisa's room first. It was incredibly spacious for one person's living quarters. It was also the only room with a balcony where someone could get some fresh air. It was obvious that Anisa wanted to show off. She deliberately brought me in to see all the expensive things in her room. But I didn't feel jealous at all, because I was sure I'd have them too eventually.
From there, they led me to the empty room in the corner. The moment the door opened, I understood why no one wanted to stay there. Besides being the smallest room, it had only one tiny window, which made the inside feel gloomy. It was extremely dusty, and cobwebs hung in several places.
"Ta-da! This is where you'll be staying now," Anisa said, her face lighting up.
She looked incredibly proud. My room was completely different from hers. Just watch—I was going to get that room.
"I'm sorry this is the only room available right now," Jevan said, glancing at me with an uneasy expression.
I put on an excited face. "Wow, I really like it here. Back at my old house, the place where I slept was so small I had to fold my legs just to sleep."
"That small? How did you survive?" Jevan asked, sounding astonished.
"Yeah. Actually, I only occupied the empty space beneath the stairs. I slept without a mattress, with nothing but cardboard underneath me."
I walked around the room and spun around twice. I enthusiastically examined every corner. "I finally have my own room with a bed. Thank you, big brother."
I looked at Jevan with a smile. Jevan turned to Anisa, who was still wearing a triumphant expression. "Anisa, just give your room to Amora, okay?"
Anisa's smug expression vanished instantly. "But..."
"No buts. You've been using it for fifteen years. It should have been Amora's room in the first place."
"I DON'T WANT TO!"
Anisa screamed so loudly that the voices of the household staff gossiping could be heard. Her face twisted into an ugly expression, making it painfully clear that she didn't like me. Had I overestimated her? Her defenses had already crumbled over something this minor. She was supposed to play the role of the gentle girl—the victim who had been hurt by me.
"Anisa, why are you being so selfish?"
When Anisa saw the irritated look on Jevan's face, she reluctantly agreed to his request. She nodded. "Fine, if that's what you want, big brother."
I could see the tears she was trying to hide. "Household staff! Please move Anisa's things in here."
