Chapter 4 - Leverage
Claire arrived at the office at seven forty-five. The floor was still half empty. She unlocked her door, set her bag down, and opened the summary Ethan had sent the night before. The timestamps were clean. Two of the three restricted logins came from terminals on Webb’s floor. One of them had been outside working hours. She closed the file and looked at the empty chair outside her office. Eight o’clock. Door closed. She had not slept well. Every time she closed her eyes she saw the way he had looked at her when she said his name. The memory sat under her skin like a bruise she could not stop pressing.
Ethan knocked at three minutes to eight. She told him to come in. He closed the door behind him without being asked and set a printed copy of the logs on her desk.
“Clean version. No digital trail. Webb’s team accessed the Q3 packet twice before it was distributed. One login was from a shared terminal that should have been locked after six.”
Claire read the page. Her expression did not change. “And the third entry?”
Ethan hesitated. “That one is different. It came from your own credentials. Not from this building. From a laptop that was logged in remotely three nights ago. The IP resolves to a residential address in Kensington.”
Claire went very still. The only sound in the room was the low hum of the air conditioning. She set the paper down carefully.
“You checked my credentials.”
“I checked everything that touched the restricted folders. That was the brief.”
She stood. The movement was controlled, but Ethan saw the tension in her shoulders. “You do not go into my personal access without telling me first. That is not part of the arrangement.”
“The arrangement was that I keep the knives from your back. Someone used your login. If I had ignored it, that would have been the real failure.”
Claire walked around the desk until she stood in front of him. Close. Too close for an ordinary conversation. “You are not my equal in this, Ethan. You do not get to decide which information I am allowed to see and which you hold back. If you have more, you tell me now.”
He held her gaze. “There is one more thing. The remote login was active for seventeen minutes. During that time someone opened the draft board paper and the private notes you keep on the directors. I have the exact timestamps. I have not shared them with anyone else.”
The silence stretched. Claire’s pulse was visible at the base of her throat. She was angry. She was also, for the first time since the arrangement began, visibly afraid. The combination sat between them like a live wire.
“Lock the door,” she said.
Ethan turned and did as he was told. When he faced her again she had already unfastened the top button of her blouse.
“You want leverage. Fine. You can have it. But you will earn every piece of it the same way you have earned everything else. On your knees. Now.”
He sank down onto the carpet. Claire stepped closer, one hand settling in his hair, and guided his mouth between her legs. She was already wet. The discovery landed in his gut with the same sharp heat as the first time. She used him with short, precise movements, hips rocking against his tongue while her free hand braced on the desk behind her. The taste of her filled his mouth. Salt and heat and the faint residual of her perfume. Outside the locked door the office was beginning to fill. Voices. The low murmur of the open-plan floor. A phone ringing somewhere down the corridor. None of it reached them. Claire kept her eyes open and watched the top of his head. She was using the control to steady herself. The fear was still there, low and cold, but the heat of his mouth was stronger.
When she came it was quiet and controlled, a sharp inhale and a tightening of her fingers in his hair. She did not let him stop. She kept him there through the aftershocks, grinding down until the sensitivity made her thighs shake. Only then did she pull back.
“Stand up. Trousers open. Hands on the desk.”
Ethan rose. Claire moved behind him, freed him with efficient hands, and rolled a condom down. She pushed into him from behind in one steady thrust. The angle was deep. She held his hips and fucked him with short, hard strokes that prioritised her own friction over his comfort. Every time he started to push back she stilled until he stopped.
“You do not get to hold information over me,” she said against his ear. “You bring it to me. You use it for me. And you remember who decides what happens next.”
She drove deeper. Ethan’s knuckles whitened on the glass desktop. The risk of someone walking past the frosted panel of her door sharpened every sensation. Claire felt it too. Her rhythm intensified. When she came a second time she bit down on the sound, forehead pressed between his shoulder blades, body locking around him. She kept moving through it, slower now, until Ethan was shaking with the effort of holding back.
“Not yet,” she said. “You wait until I am finished with you.”
She withdrew, dealt with the condom, and smoothed her clothing. Ethan stayed where he was, breathing hard, cock still hard and leaking. Claire looked at him for a long moment.
“Get dressed. The board paper needs revising before ten. And Ethan.”
He turned. Her eyes were dark.
“If you ever hold something back from me again, the arrangement ends. Are we clear?”
“Clear.”
She nodded once and returned to her chair. Ethan unlocked the door and left. His pulse was still high when he sat down at his desk. The mark of her teeth was not visible under his shirt, but he could feel it.

The empty boardroom was on the thirty-first floor. Claire had booked it for a late review that no one else was attending. At six forty-five she texted Ethan a single line: Room 31.03. Now.
He arrived three minutes later. The long table was bare. The blinds were half closed. City light filtered through in thin stripes. Claire stood at the far end, coat off, blouse already unbuttoned to the sternum.
“Lock the door.”
He did. She walked toward him, stopped when they were a foot apart, and looked up.
“You want to know what I do with the information you bring me. Fine. Watch.”
She pushed him back against the edge of the table, unfastened his trousers, and took him in her mouth without preamble. The angle was awkward. The table edge dug into the backs of his thighs. Claire did not care. She worked him with the same precise focus she brought to everything else, one hand braced on his hip, the other stroking what her mouth could not reach. Ethan’s head tipped back. His hands stayed flat on the table because she had not given him permission to touch. The risk of discovery sat under his skin like a second pulse. Every wet sound she made seemed louder than it was. Claire’s free hand tightened on his hip when he started to push forward. She pulled off just long enough to say, “Still,” then took him deeper.
When she pulled off she was breathing hard. She stood, turned, and bent over the table, skirt pushed up, underwear already gone. “Now. And you do not come until I say.”
Ethan stepped forward and pushed into her. The heat of her closed around him completely. He held still for a second, waiting. Claire glanced back over her shoulder.
“Move.”
He did. The rhythm was hard and controlled. Every thrust shifted the table slightly. The risk of someone trying the door sat between them like a third presence. Claire reached back and caught his wrist, guiding his hand between her legs. He found her clit and circled it in time with his hips. Her breathing fractured. The city light through the blinds cut across her back in thin stripes. When she came it was with a sharp, muffled sound against her own arm, body clamping around him in rhythmic pulses that dragged a low sound from his chest he could not quite swallow.
Ethan kept moving through it. The aftershocks dragged him right to the edge. Claire felt it and said, “Stop.”
He stopped. The effort made his arms shake. She stayed bent over the table for a moment longer, then straightened and turned to face him.
“On your knees again. Finish yourself. I want to watch.”
Ethan sank down. He took himself in hand and stroked with the same tight grip she had used on him earlier. Claire watched, arms folded, expression unreadable. The residual heat of her still clung to his skin. When he came it was with a low, broken sound, spilling over his own fist while she stood above him and did not look away. She watched until the last pulse had left him. Only then did she hand him a tissue from her bag.
She handed him a tissue from her bag. “Clean up. Then we leave separately. You take the stairs. I take the lift.”
He did as he was told. At the door she stopped him with a hand on his arm.
“The Kensington login. I want the full address and the times. Bring it tomorrow. And Ethan.”
He looked at her.
“If you ever use what you know against me, I will end more than the arrangement. Do you understand?”
“Yes.”
She released him. He took the stairs. She waited three minutes, then took the lift down to the car park.

Claire’s driver was already waiting. She slid into the back seat and closed the door. The privacy screen was up. For a moment she simply sat there, hands resting on her thighs, the residual heat of the boardroom still under her skin. Her mouth still tasted of him. The knowledge that he had held the Kensington address back until she demanded it sat uncomfortably beside the memory of his obedience. She had wanted the control. She had not expected the fear that came with realising how much information he now held.
The car pulled out into the evening traffic. She opened her phone and looked at the summary Ethan had left on her desk that morning. The Kensington address was still blank. He had held it back until she asked. The knowledge sat uncomfortably beside the memory of his mouth on her and the way he had stayed still when she told him to.
Her phone buzzed. A message from a board member she had not expected to hear from until Thursday.
Margaret Chen. Subject line: Informal catch-up.
Claire opened it.
“Claire. Quick note. Several of us have noticed how closely your assistant has been involved in the board preparations this week. Useful, I’m sure. Just be careful the relationship stays professional. The optics matter at the moment. Happy to discuss if useful. Margaret.”
Claire read the message twice. Then she locked the phone and set it face down on the seat beside her.
Outside the car the London evening thickened. Inside, the residual heat from the boardroom was still present under her skin. And for the first time since she had made the offer in her flat, she was not entirely certain she still controlled every part of the arrangement.
